What’s a C-Lab?
A C-Lab is a team of citizen activists who volunteer to design and implement projects which benefit the whole community (the C in our name stands for “community”). We are a 501c3 non-profit organization registered in the state of Indiana.
Where did this idea come from?
Similar groups—sometimes called social or civic incubators—have sprung up in numerous cities in recent years. A civic workshop was one of the suggestions in the recent ValpoNEXT public visioning process approved by the Valparaiso City Council in early 2015.
What kinds of projects does the C-Lab take on?
We focus on areas like neighborhood revitalization, economic development, public art, and local food. So just as a business incubator hatches businesses, we hatch community projects and events. We have no political affiliation and we’re not part of any other group.
How long has the C-Lab been in operation?
We’ve been meeting in downtown Valpo (at the great Zoseco Coworking space!) for several months and formally launched on December 9, 2015. We hope to develop a C-Lab network across NW Indiana.
How can I keep up with your work?
In addition to this website, we have a growing Facebook Group.
